Hardy Dog Park was the first dog park in Oakland, established about 1995. It is in the Rockridge neighborhood, located under the freeway and BART tracks at the corner of Hudson Street and Claremont Avenue.
Large and small dogs play together at Hardy. There are double gate entrances on Hudson Street and on the Claremont/Hardy side. This is the place to go when you want to avoid the weather, too hot or too wet, because the dog park in totally covered by the highway and BART systems.
 There are two children's play areas in tiny Hardy Park, both built by neighborhood based groups who knew that it would be okay to have the kids and dogs near each other.
Hardy closing? Not really...
A small part of Hardy Dog Park will be closed during the BART retrofit in 2009. The Hudson Street gate and the Hudson end of the park will be closed for a few months during that time. The good news is that this will decrease the space for dog owners only a little bit and only for a short time...
